01: About Humanistic Foundation

What is Humanistic Foundation

Humanistic Foundation Incorporated is a nonprofit organization founded in March 1993 that operates licensed residential treatment facilities for at-risk youth across Southern California. We provide a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment for young people working through difficult circumstances, with the goal of reunifying them with their families whenever possible.

Yes. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization (EIN: 95-4503668) in full IRS compliance, and donations are tax-deductible to the full extent permitted by law. Our annual Form 990 filings are publicly available, and we welcome questions about our operations.

We operate four licensed facilities across two counties: New Concept in West Los Angeles (our original, flagship location), New Concept II in Inglewood (opened in 2025), and Stockdale Boys Center I and II in Bakersfield, serving youth in the Central Valley through Kern County.

Yes. We are licensed by the State of California as a Short-Term Residential Treatment Program (STRTP), CARF® accredited, and contracted with both the County of Los Angeles and Kern County for mental health services.

02: Our Program & Services

What is a Short-Term Residential Treatment Program (STRTP)?

An STRTP is a licensed residential facility that provides 24-hour care, supervision, and evidence-based therapeutic services to youth. Our program combines a structured daily environment with individualized treatment, addressing the root causes of risky behavior rather than just its symptoms.

We serve ambulatory male minors ages 11–17 and non-minor dependents up to age 21, referred through California juvenile courts, the County of Los Angeles, or Kern County DCFS and Behavioral Health. Across our four facilities, we have capacity to serve up to 26 residents.

Our program is individualized to each resident’s needs, but treatment typically takes place over about six months, with plans reviewed and adjusted regularly as residents progress.

Our care is trauma-informed and built around Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), including Trauma-Focused CBT for youth impacted by PTSD and traumatic life events. Residents meet one-on-one with a primary clinician at least twice a week and attend weekly group sessions. We also offer substance education and anger management programming, mental health and psychiatric services (we have a psychiatrist on staff), case management, mentorship, and education and daily-living support.

Yes, reunification is central to our purpose. Family visits are actively encouraged, either at our facilities or in the family home, and our program is designed to give residents the strategies and tools they need for a successful transition back to family and community.

03: Families & Referring Agencies

How does a young person get placed at Humanistic Foundation?

Residents are referred through California juvenile courts, the County of Los Angeles, or Kern County DCFS and Behavioral Health. If you’re exploring a placement or want to discuss referral procedures and current availability, contact our team directly.

Yes. We consider families essential partners in the healing process. Visits are encouraged throughout a resident’s stay, and our clinical team works with families directly to prepare for a successful reunification.

Residents receive housing, meals, clothing, and school support alongside clinical care, all overseen 24 hours a day by a multidisciplinary team. Case managers coordinate with referring agencies, schools, courts, and families to keep every part of a resident’s care aligned.

04: Get Involved

How can I donate?

You can give online through our secure donation page. Every gift goes directly toward residential care, therapeutic services, and life-skills programming for our residents, and is fully tax-deductible as we are a registered 501(c)(3) (EIN: 95-4503668).

We welcome volunteers who lead a workshop, share a skill, or simply show up consistently as a role model for a young person who needs one. Reach out to our team to talk about current volunteer opportunities.

Absolutely. Beyond direct giving, one of the most powerful things a partner can do is spread the word — sharing our story, nominating us for grants, or connecting us with businesses and foundations looking to make a lasting community impact. Get in touch to start the conversation.
